White Fluorescence in Diamonds

Diamond fluorescence, is the effect that ultraviolet (UV) light has on a diamond. When you stand under an ultraviolet light or blue light, sometimes you can see your whites get brighter or your teeth appear to glow under these lighting conditions. This is the same effect the diamond has under UV rays. Fluorescence is the visible light that a diamond emits when it is exposed to the UV rays.

On a GIA Diamond Grading Report, fluorescence refers to the strength, or intensity, of the diamond’s reaction to long-wave UV, an essential component of daylight. The light emitted lasts as long as the diamond is exposed to the ultraviolet source of light.

There are three elements that can be absorbed by the diamond that will cause fluorescence:

It is rare to come access a white fluorescence stone, this Liberian rough diamond has a white fluorescence glow. White fluorescence usually does not affect the value of the rough diamond. Other fluorescent rough diamonds can lose up to 80% of their value due to fluorescence or phosphorescence.

Congo’s Ebola outbreak may not be containable warns CDC director

Director Robert Redfield of the CDC warned on Monday that the Ebola outbreak in the Congo’s war zones may not be brought under control in the region due mostly to conflicts in the war torn region.

If this outbreak goes unconfined, it will be the first time such an event happens since the deadly viral disease was first identified in 1976, following 4 months of outbreak, 300 cases + and 187 Deaths.

If the Ebola Endemic reaches the areas of North Kivu province, in the NE, we will lose the ability to track and trace contacts and the outbreak will spread out of control. Which would have major implications for commerce and trade not only in the Congo, but throughout the whole region.

“I do think this is one of the challenges we’ll have to see, whether we’re able to contain, control and end the current outbreak with the current security situation, or do we move into the idea that this becomes more of an endemic Ebola outbreak in this region, which we’ve never really confronted,” Redfield stated.

This Ebola outbreak in DRC Congo may severely affect all diamond mining operations in the region as well as the rough diamond trade in the DRC for a substantial amount of time to come if this Ebola outbreak hits the worse case scenario.

Rough Diamond Grading

Rough diamond grading, just like brain surgery, should only be left to trained professionals. Grading rough diamonds is an art, and very specialized skill.

The major problem a lot of people encounter with rough diamond grading is that often times, the gemologist grading the rough diamond parcel in the Country of origin can be way off on colors and clarity.

This can result in major inconsistencies and severe money losses for the parcel owner. Once the parcel reaches CIF destination, it does not match the gemologist report on the ground, and there start the arguments.

What most importers do wrong, is that they offer a parcel on paper based on the rough diamond grading from the original grader in the country of origin, instead of re-grading the parcel once it arrives at CIF destination before sending the end buyer their manifest.

This process is vital to successful negotiation between sellers and buyers of rough diamond, and to retain the ability to negotiate a rough diamond parcel upwards rather than downwords.

Nine Missing in Alrosa Mine Flooding in Siberia

Sixteen people were reported missing on Friday after flooding of a diamond mine in Siberia, where 151 miners were found, the Alrosa group said in a statement.

At the end of the morning, 102 people had already been rescued and 33 were being evacuated, said the world’s largest diamond producer.

Others were evacuated later. “Research is underway for 9 people which remain missing,” the statement said.

The flooding took place in the later afternoon, in the underground mine Mir. It is due to a problem on a pumping station.

Alrosa is the largest diamond producing company in the world with large scale mining operations in Russia and worldwide.

Where To Buy Gold Bars?

Buying gold bars or buying gold bullion can be done 2 ways:

-The inexperience investor will purchase gold bars at spot price or higher, the only reason anyone would purchase gold bullion at spot or higher is because they have no clue how and where to purchase gold at a nice discount in order to make a profit when they buy, which is very similar to investors buying real estate, most will pay full price as they don’t have a clue how to purchase properties at a discount.

-The experience and knowledgeable investor, will team up with a gold trade desk who has the ability to purchase gold bars (dore) wholesale in Africa, will take advantage of their professional knowledge and expertise, and will sell the gold in a Western Country, turning their money every 10 days, utilizing the time value of money to create extraordinary compound interest on a year to year basis, putting to shame their hedge funds returns on investment.

Purchasing gold on the internet in 99% of cases will result in severe loss or scams which are all over the internet. The only way to cary out a successful transaction is to Joint Venture with a professional Gold Trade Desk such as Madnox, to inquire about gold bars for sale, please contact Madnox at 1-305-600-1814 or vince@madnox.com

FIU Professor Makes Major Diamond Exploration Discovery

Dr. Stephen Haggerty stood in the humid Liberian jungle, in the summer of 2013, the geology professor from Florida International University was on assignment as the chief exploration officer for the Youssef Diamond Mining Co., The company had the mining rights in a section of  Camp Alpha area in Liberia, located on the West Coast of Africa near the Sierra Leone border.

He noticed something: the Pandanus candelabrum, a very large plant with palm fronds and a base made of thick, exposed roots that extend deep into the ground.

“It’s a ‘plant growing on steroids’ is the best way to explain it,” says Haggerty, who had seen the plant at other mines but dismissed it as just part of the just another foliage in the middle of the African jungle. Haggerty had a hunch about this. He cut out a piece of root to peek inside and than found a mysterious black area within the root. He jammed a pry bar underneath the pandanus to uproot the plant.

And There it was!” Haggerty said.

Below the plant were kimberlite rocks. What ifthis pandanus plant was “feeding” off the mineral?

Haggerty put his crew to work uprooting nearby pandanus plants. They found exactly what Haggerty had come to the area to discover: a major kimberlite dike about 500 meters across.

Kimberlite doesn’t always yield any diamonds, but diamonds will always be found in kimberlite. “There is  a one in one-100th chance that there are diamonds in a kimberlite deposit,” says Haggerty.

If pandanus plants feed off kimberlite, diamond explorers could more easily find the host mineral in the jungle by using satellites imagery to search for pandanus, then mining for the kimberlite.

If this theory is correct, his discovery could be a game-changer in the diamond exploration and mining, making it more efficient and more cost effective to find the gems. No longer would diamond explorers have to choose their mining sites based on rumors, but they could search for the pandanus plant, then start mining, which would save millions of dollars in exploration and mining costs.
