Sixteen people were reported missing on Friday after flooding of a diamond mine in Siberia, where 151 miners were found, the Alrosa group said in a statement.
At the end of the morning, 102 people had already been rescued and 33 were being evacuated, said the world’s largest diamond producer.
Others were evacuated later. “Research is underway for 9 people which remain missing,” the statement said.
The flooding took place in the later afternoon, in the underground mine Mir. It is due to a problem on a pumping station.
Alrosa is the largest diamond producing company in the world with large scale mining operations in Russia and worldwide.
